DM Office is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by Los Angeles-based painter, Justin John Greene. Greene draws from a range of art historical references to create complex and psychologically leaden compositions that are both gestural and meticulously rendered. In particular he is fascinated by the legacy of German Expressionism as filtered through mid-20th century cartoonists such as Al Hirschfeld, R. Crumb and John Kricfalusi, as well as Hollywood film noir. His focus on figures and anthropomorphized objects explores the banal anxieties of everyday living, while mapping a ghostly, yet darkly humorous landscape. Recent notable exhibitions include Surreal at König Gallery, Berlin, An Uncanny Likeness at Simon Lee, New York and a forthcoming group show at the Frans Hals Museum, in Haarlem, NL.
